There was a press event held by Apple recently to announce the new version of the iPhone OS, the iPhone OS 4.0. Apple announced that the iPhone OS 4.0 is scheduled to be launched in the summer of 2010. Rumors about iPhone OS 4.0 say that there are many new features in this version of iPhone OS.
One of the prominent features is the capacity of the OS to multi-task. The multi-tasking feature allows 7 important services to work at a time on this operating system. Also, it does not consume more battery during this operation. Push notification, task completion, local notification, background audio, fast switching between applications and background location VOIP are the services that are included in the multi-tasking feature to run simultaneously.
The background audio service in iPhone OS 4.0 facilitates the users to listen to online radio while performing other operations on their phone. The VOIP service can be used by users to operate different applications at a time. The task completion service in the iPhone OS 4.0 helps all applications to continue their necessary jobs in the background even if they are minimized to the tray.
Another feature included in this version of the iPhone OS is its support for a 5 times digital zoom for pictures and photos. Also, there is an iBook application present in iPhone OS 4.0. Users can read ebooks anytime they want and can also purchase ebooks from the iBook store. Bluetooth keyboard is another feature in this new version of the operating system. An improved e-mail application has been introduced in the iPhone OS 4.0. Using this service, all e-mail accounts like Gmail, Yahoo and MobileMe can be accessed from one single application. A new advertising platform, iAd has been introduced in iPhone OS 4.0 by Apple. Third party developers can use the APIs and required plug-ins to include advertisements in their application programs. The marketing and management of these ads will be carried out by Apple and the developers will get 60% out of the total sale.
There are around 1500 new APIs in this version besides the other inbuilt features of iPhone OS 4.0. For technical queries and support, Apple has setup a Genius Bar which does not involve the assistance provided by call center outsourcing companies but these are trained professionals of Apple headquarters.
